Introduction

MeowX is a native proxy client for iPhone, iPad and Mac. You give it a subscription from your proxy provider (or your own server), and it routes your device’s traffic through the nodes in that subscription according to rules: some traffic through a proxy, some directly, some blocked.

MeowX is written from scratch in Swift. It does not embed another client’s core. Configuration follows the widely used mihomo / Clash Meta format, so a subscription that works in a Clash-family client generally works in MeowX too: proxy groups, rules, rule providers and DNS settings behave the way you expect.

Platform Minimum version How it runs
iPhone iOS 17 A VPN (Packet Tunnel) that captures the device’s traffic
iPad iPadOS 17 Same as iPhone, with a two-column layout and sidebar
Mac macOS 14 A menu bar app with two modes: system proxy or TUN (system extension). Runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel

The same subscription, the same rules and mostly the same settings work on all three. Where something only exists on one platform, these docs mark it with a badge such as iOS or macOS.

There is also a MeowX app for Android and Windows. It has the same design and account features, but it is a separate app built on the open-source Bettbox client and the mihomo core rather than MeowX’s Swift core, so some features differ (for example, it has no HTTPS decryption). See Android & Windows.

Clash-compatible configuration

Import subscriptions by URL or clash://install-config link. Proxy groups (select, url-test, fallback), rules, rule sets, GeoIP / GeoSite and DNS options from your subscription just work.

Many protocols

Shadowsocks, VMess, VLESS (including REALITY and Vision), Trojan, Hysteria 2, WireGuard, AnyTLS, Snell, Mieru and more. See Protocols.

Rule, Global and Direct modes

Switch instantly between following your subscription’s rules, sending everything through one node, or sending everything direct, without reconnecting.

Your own overrides

Custom rules (this domain goes Direct / Proxy / Reject), a bypass list, DNS hijacking, Block QUIC and more. They survive subscription refreshes.

Live activity

See every active connection, which rule it matched and which node carried it, then create a rule for it with one tap.

Built-in speed test

Measure latency, download and upload through any node or directly, with Google, Apple, Speedtest and Cloudflare servers. Results are kept in a local history.

Widgets and Control Center

On iPhone and iPad, connect, disconnect and change the outbound mode from the Home Screen or Control Center without opening the app.

HTTPS decryption

Optional MITM to rewrite or inspect HTTPS requests, compatible with Surge modules and Loon plugins. See HTTPS Decryption.

Other things worth knowing:

  • Fast by design. MeowX ships its own user-space TCP stack and a “fast mode” that talks to the system’s network interfaces more directly. Both are on by default and reduce CPU use (and therefore battery drain) during heavy downloads.
  • Local HTTP / SOCKS5 proxy. Let other apps or other devices on your network use MeowX’s connection.
  • Wi-Fi automation. Turn the proxy on or off automatically depending on which Wi-Fi network you join.
  • Provider account support. If your provider runs a compatible dashboard, you can sign in by scanning a QR code and pick subscriptions from your account.

If you are new to proxy clients, read Concepts before diving into the settings. It explains subscriptions, proxy groups, rules and DNS modes in plain terms.
