Home
Home is where you connect, switch the outbound mode and subscription, and see what MeowX is doing. The app has four tabs: Home, Nodes, Activity and Me. On phones they are in a floating bar at the bottom; on Windows and on wide tablet screens they are in a sidebar on the left.
Layout
Section titled “Layout”Phone Android, from top to bottom:
- Header: MeowX logo, Re-query exit IP button, Home cards button
- Connection card
- Speed card
- Subscription card
- Proxied apps row
- Stats tiles
- Exit IP cards
Wide screens (Windows, and Android tablets at least 900 points wide) use two columns:
- Left: connection card, the Takeover card Windows or the Proxied apps row Android, and the speed card stretched to fill the column.
- Right: subscription card, stats tiles, exit IP cards, and an Active connections card filling the rest.
Between 700 and 899 points wide, the same cards are stacked in one column next to the sidebar.
Everything except the connection card (and, on Windows, the speed chart) can be hidden. See Home cards.
Connection card
Section titled “Connection card”The large card at the top. It is neutral while disconnected and turns pink while connected.
Status. A small line with a colored dot, the state in large type, and a line below:
| State | Small line | Bottom line |
|---|---|---|
| Not connected | Ready, or Not configured if there is nothing to start | “Tap the button on the right to start”, or “Import a subscription in Me first” |
| Connecting | “Rule mode · Starting” (or Global / Direct) | “Please wait…” |
| Connected | “Rule mode · VPN established” on Android, “Rule mode · Core running” on Windows | “Running” and the time since connecting |
Power button. The rounded square on the right. Tap it to connect or disconnect. Taps are ignored while a start or stop is in progress.
- On Android, connecting starts the VPN (Android asks for permission the first time).
- On Windows, the power button only starts the core. How traffic reaches MeowX is decided by the Takeover controls: TUN, system proxy, or both. See Windows: TUN and system proxy.
Current node. The row under the status shows the node your traffic leaves through, the group path that led to it (for example “Proxy › Auto”), and its latency. If a group points to another group, MeowX follows the chain to the actual node. Tap the row to open Nodes.
In Direct mode the row reads “Direct” (“All traffic bypasses the proxy”). Without a subscription it reads “No proxy groups”.
Outbound mode. The Rule / Global / Direct switch at the bottom of the card. It applies immediately, without reconnecting. See Concepts.
Speed card
Section titled “Speed card”Shows the current upload and download rate with the total transferred this session under each, and, if turned on, a line chart of the last 60 seconds (upload in the accent color, download in purple).
- On phones the chart is hidden by default; turn on Speed chart in Home cards.
- On Windows the chart is always shown and fills the left column, with the peak rate above it.
Tap the speed card to open the network speed test. The small gauge icon in its corner is the reminder.
Subscription card
Section titled “Subscription card”Shows the current subscription:
- Its name and, on the right, a Switch subscription button. Both open the same menu.
- A usage bar, if your provider reports a quota. It turns red above 90 %.
- A line with usage (“128.4 / 500 GB”), the expiry date (“Expires 2026-12-31”, “Permanent”, or “Unknown expiry”), and when it was last updated (“3 hours ago updated”). Tap the update time to refresh the subscription now. If the provider sends no usage information, the line says so.
The Switch subscription menu lists:
- The subscriptions on this device. The current one has a checkmark. Choosing another switches to it; if you are connected, MeowX reloads with the new configuration.
- Account subscriptions · not downloaded (only when signed in to a provider account): subscriptions in your account that are not on this device yet, marked with a down arrow. Choosing one downloads it and switches to it.
- Import subscription…, which opens the Me tab.
When the built-in Direct profile is current, the card says “No subscription in use, all traffic goes direct” and the button reads Choose subscription. With no profile at all, the card shows “No subscription yet” and opens the Me tab when tapped.
More in Account and subscriptions.
Proxied apps
Section titled “Proxied apps”A row showing whether per-app proxying is on:
- “All apps use the proxy” (off), or
- “Allowlist · only the N selected apps use the proxy”, or
- “Blocklist · the N selected apps bypass the proxy”.
Tap it to open the Proxied apps page. You can hide the row in Home cards.
Takeover
Section titled “Takeover”Two switches that decide how traffic reaches MeowX. They can be on at the same time:
| Switch | Hint line | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Virtual adapter (TUN) | Status of the MeowX service, for example “Takes over traffic of all apps · service ready” | Captures all traffic on the PC through a virtual network adapter |
| System proxy | 127.0.0.1: and the local proxy port |
Points Windows’ proxy setting at MeowX, which proxy-aware apps (browsers and most others) follow |
With both off, only programs that you configure by hand to use MeowX’s local proxy go through it. Both are off on a new installation, so turn on at least System proxy to get started. Full details in Windows: TUN and system proxy.
Stats tiles
Section titled “Stats tiles”A row of up to four small tiles. Hidden tiles leave the others to share the width.
| Tile | Shows | Tap to |
|---|---|---|
| Proxied connections | Open connections going through a proxy | Open Activity |
| Direct connections | Open direct connections | Open Activity |
| Memory (Core memory on wide screens) | Memory used by the mihomo core while connected | |
| DNS | The effective DNS mode, Fake-IP or Redir-Host. The title says whether it follows the subscription (“DNS · Follow”) or is set by you (“DNS · Manual”) | Cycle the DNS mode: Follow subscription → Redir-Host → Fake-IP. If the effective mode changes while connected, MeowX reloads the configuration |
Exit IP cards
Section titled “Exit IP cards”Two cards side by side:
- Domestic · direct exit: your public IP address when connecting directly, with a country code. This is checked even while disconnected.
- International · via outbound: the public IP address websites see through the proxy, and which outbound the check actually used. It shows Not connected while disconnected.
Both are checked again about 1.5 seconds after you connect, disconnect or change nodes. Tap the circular-arrow button in the header to check again right away. If you hide the Exit IP cards, MeowX stops checking them.
Active connections
Section titled “Active connections”On wide screens (Windows and wide tablet layouts), the bottom of the right column lists the most recent connections: inbound, host, outbound and download rate, refreshed every second while Home is visible and MeowX is connected. View all N opens Activity.
Home cards
Section titled “Home cards”Tap the sliders button at the top right to choose which cards appear:
- Upload
- Download
- Speed chart (not on Windows, where it is always shown)
- Proxied apps Android
- Proxied connections
- Direct connections
- Memory
- DNS mode
- Exit IP
Turning off both Upload and Download and the chart hides the speed card. The connection card is always shown. Turning off Exit IP also stops the exit IP lookups.
The sidebar
Section titled “The sidebar”On Windows and wide tablet screens, the tabs are in a sidebar:
- At least 1000 points wide: a full sidebar with the tab names, a count next to Nodes (number of nodes) and Activity (number of open connections), and a connection block at the bottom with the status, outbound mode, current node and power button. On Windows it also has TUN and System proxy buttons that work like the Takeover switches.
- 700 to 999 points wide: a narrow icon bar with only the power button at the bottom.
Battery and performance
Section titled “Battery and performance”Live numbers (speed, running time, connection counts) only update while Home is the visible tab, and on Android only while the app is in the foreground. Counters shown in the sidebar keep updating on wide screens.
