Windows: window, tray and hotkeys

Windows

MeowX has no separate title bar. The window buttons sit at the top right, on the same row as the page title:

Button Does
Pin Keeps the window on top of other windows. Click again to unpin
Minimize Minimizes the window
Maximize / Restore Toggles between maximized and normal size
Close Hides the window to the tray. MeowX keeps running and stays connected

Drag the title row of any main tab to move the window. Pages opened from a tab (settings pages, the speed test, Advanced settings) have a thin draggable bar at the top that holds the window buttons.

The window can be made as small as 900 × 600; a new installation opens at 1100 × 720, wide enough for the full sidebar. MeowX remembers the window’s size and position. If the screen it was on is no longer connected, or the window would end up off-screen (for example with several monitors at different scaling), it is moved back onto a visible screen.

To quit MeowX completely, use Exit in the tray menu. Quitting stops the core and clears the system proxy setting.

Left-click the MeowX tray icon to show the window. Right-click it for the menu. The icon changes when MeowX is connected and taking over traffic (system proxy or TUN on).

The tray menu contains, from top to bottom:

  1. Show: opens the window.
  2. Start / Stop: connects or disconnects.
  3. Rule, Global, Direct: the outbound mode (the current one is checked).
  4. TUN and System proxy (only while connected): the takeover switches.
  5. Your proxy groups, if Show proxy groups and nodes in tray is on (see below). Each group is a submenu with a ⚡ Test item at the top and its nodes with their latency; click a node to select it. Nodes are listed in the order chosen in the Nodes tab’s sort setting.
  6. Launch at startup.
  7. Copy environment variables: PowerShell, CMD, Bash or Fish commands that point command-line tools at the local proxy.
  8. Restart core.
  9. More: Restart app and Wakelock (keeps the screen from turning off while checked).
  10. Exit.

The tray menu follows the language set in Me › Advanced › Language.

Me › Startup & window (“The close button hides the window to the tray”):

Option What it does
Launch at startup Starts MeowX when you sign in to Windows. MeowX registers a Windows scheduled task for this, so turning it on or off shows a UAC prompt
Silent launch Starts in the tray without showing the main window
Auto-connect after launch Connects as soon as MeowX starts
Show proxy groups and nodes in tray Adds your proxy groups and nodes to the tray menu

A common setup is all of the first three on: MeowX starts quietly with Windows and connects in the background.

Me › Global hotkeys lets you assign system-wide keyboard shortcuts:

Action Does
Start / Stop Connects or disconnects
Show / Hide window Toggles the window
Switch mode Switches the outbound mode
System proxy Turns the system proxy on or off
Virtual adapter Turns TUN on or off

Click a row, press the key combination you want, and confirm. Open the same row again to change or remove it. Rows without a shortcut say “Not set”.
