iOS iPadOS

The Home tab is where you connect, see what MeowX is doing right now, and switch subscriptions. On the Mac, the same information lives at the top of the menu bar panel; see Mac menu bar app.

From top to bottom on iPhone:

  1. Header (MeowX logo, Re-query exit IP button, Home cards button)
  2. Connection card
  3. Speed card
  4. Subscription card
  5. Stats tiles
  6. Exit IP cards
  7. Error card (only when something went wrong)

Everything except the connection card can be hidden. See Customizing the Home cards.

The large card at the top. It is neutral while disconnected and turns pink while connected.

Status. A small status line with a colored dot, the state in large type, and a line below it:

State Small line Bottom line
Not connected Ready (or Not configured if there is no usable profile) “Tap the button on the right to start”
Connecting / Connected “Rule mode · Protected” (or Global / Direct) “Running for …” once the first status update arrives
Not installed The VPN configuration was removed from iOS Settings; tapping the power button reinstalls it

The large state reads Not connected, Connecting…, Connected, Reconnecting…, Disconnecting… or Not installed.

Power button. The rounded square on the right. Tap it to connect or disconnect.

  • While connecting, pink “liquid” fills the button from the bottom; when the connection is up it fills completely. When disconnecting, it drains.
  • Only one toggle runs at a time. Repeated taps while it is working are ignored, so you cannot accidentally queue connect-disconnect-connect.
  • The button is disabled when there is no usable configuration.

Current exit. The row under the status shows the node your traffic actually leaves through, its latency, and the group path that led to it (for example “Proxy › Auto”). If a group points to another group, MeowX follows the chain to the real node. Tap the row to jump to the Nodes tab. Without a subscription it reads “Subscription required”.

Outbound mode. The Rule / Global / Direct switch at the bottom of the card. Changes apply instantly without reconnecting and are remembered. See Concepts.

Shows the current upload and download rate and, under each, the total transferred in this session. If the speed chart is turned on, a line chart of the last 60 seconds is drawn along the bottom (upload in pink, download in purple).

Tap the speed card to open the network speed test. A small gauge icon in its corner is the reminder.

On iPhone the chart is hidden by default to save space; turn on Speed chart in the Home cards settings. On iPad it is shown by default.

Shows the current subscription:

  • Its name, and on the right a Switch subscription button. Both open the same menu.
  • A usage bar, if the provider reports a quota.
  • A line with usage (“120 GB / 500 GB”), the expiry (“Expires 2026-12-31”, “Never” for plans that do not expire, or “Unknown expiry”) and when it was last updated (“5 minutes ago”). Tap the update time to refresh the subscription right away.

The Switch subscription menu lists:

  1. All subscriptions on this device (the current one has a checkmark). Choosing another switches to it and reconnects if you are connected.
  2. Account subscriptions · not downloaded (only when you are signed in to a provider account): subscriptions in your account that are not on this device yet. Choosing one downloads it and switches to it.
  3. Import subscription…, which takes you to the Me tab.

When the built-in Direct (no proxy) profile is current, the card says “No subscription in use, all traffic goes direct” and the button reads Choose subscription. With no subscription at all, the card shows “Subscription required” and a Go import button.

More in Account and subscriptions.

A row of small tiles. Each one can be turned off individually; the remaining tiles share the width.

Tile Shows Tap to
Proxied connections Number of open connections going through a proxy Open Activity
Direct connections Number of open direct connections Open Activity
Memory Memory used by the VPN extension (iOS limits VPN extensions to roughly 50 MB; on iPad the tile also shows the limit) Open a memory breakdown report (while connected)
DNS The effective DNS mode, Fake-IP or Redir-Host. On iPad the title also says whether it follows the subscription or is fixed Cycle the DNS mode: Follow subscription → Redir-Host → Fake-IP. If the effective mode changes while connected, MeowX reconnects

Two cards side by side:

  • Domestic · direct exit: the public IP address you have when connecting directly, with a country code badge. This is queried even while disconnected.
  • International · via node: the public IP address websites see when traffic goes through the proxy. The title names the outbound that the rules actually selected for the check, so you can tell at a glance which node you are leaving through. It shows Not connected while disconnected.

Tap the circular-arrow button in the header to query both again (for example after switching nodes). If you hide the Exit IP cards, MeowX stops querying them altogether.

If connecting fails or the configuration has a problem, a card with a warning icon and the error message appears at the bottom. It is the first place to look when something is wrong; see Troubleshooting.

Tap the sliders button at the top right to open Home cards. Toggle any of:

  • Speed chart
  • Subscription
  • Proxied connections
  • Direct connections
  • Memory
  • DNS mode
  • Exit IP

The connection card is always shown. Turning off Exit IP also stops the exit IP lookups.

On iPad (full-width windows), MeowX uses a sidebar instead of the bottom tab bar, and the Home tab rearranges itself for the orientation.

Sidebar. In landscape the sidebar is wide and shows text labels, with a connection block pinned at the bottom: status, outbound mode, the current exit (tap it to open Nodes) and a power button. In portrait the sidebar collapses to icons, with only the power button at the bottom. The sidebar deliberately shows no counters or timers.

Landscape. Two columns:

  • Left: connection card (with the app icon), subscription card, and the speed card stretched to fill the remaining height (with the 60-second chart, “Last 60 s” label and peak rate).
  • Right: stats tiles, exit IP cards and an Active connections card that lists up to eight open connections (protocol, host, outbound and downloaded bytes, refreshed every few seconds). View all N opens the Activity tab.

Portrait. A single column: a wide connection card with the current exit and mode switch side by side, then the speed and subscription cards next to each other at equal height, the stats tiles, exit IPs and the active connections card.

The once-per-second status refresh that drives the speed numbers and counters only runs while the Home tab is on screen and the app is in the foreground. Other tabs and the background do not poll, which saves battery and radio time.
