Android: VPN and proxied apps
On Android, MeowX captures traffic through Android’s VPN service: when you connect, Android routes the device’s traffic into MeowX, and the mihomo core decides where each connection goes according to your outbound mode and rules. The first connection asks for permission; see Installation.
Proxied apps
Section titled “Proxied apps”Android lets a VPN include or exclude individual apps. MeowX calls this Proxied apps. Open it from the Proxied apps row on Home or from Me › Proxied apps.
- Turn on Enable per-app routing. While it is off, all apps use the proxy.
- Choose a mode:
- Allowlist: only the selected apps use the proxy. Everything else bypasses MeowX entirely.
- Blocklist: the selected apps do not use the proxy. Everything else does.
- Tick the apps. Use the search field to find an app by name or package name, and turn on System apps to include preinstalled system apps.
- Reconnect. Changes take effect on the next connection; if you are connected, MeowX offers to restart the VPN.
The page shows how many apps are selected and how many apps with internet access there are. Apps you had already selected are listed first. The refresh button at the top reloads the app list, for example after installing a new app.
The allowlist and the blocklist are two separate lists. Switching modes, or turning the feature off and on, keeps both selections.
The summary on Home and in Me shows the current state, for example “Allowlist · 12 apps”.
If the list is empty or says it cannot read the app list, your system requires a separate permission for reading the list of installed apps. Tap Grant and allow it.
More options (sorting, adding packages by name) are in Me › Advanced › Access Control. Both pages edit the same lists.
VPN and system
Section titled “VPN and system”Me › VPN & system:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Auto-connect | Connect automatically when the app is opened |
| Network speed notification | Show the current speed and subscription information in the notification while connected. Turning it off restores the plain notification |
Starting MeowX automatically when the device boots is an option in Bettbox’s settings: Me › Advanced › Application.
Quick Settings tile
Section titled “Quick Settings tile”Add the MeowX tile to the Quick Settings panel to connect or disconnect from anywhere. Long-pressing the tile opens the app.
The back button
Section titled “The back button”The system back gesture first closes the open page or sheet, then returns to the Home tab, and finally moves MeowX to the background. It does not quit the app or disconnect.
Battery optimization
Section titled “Battery optimization”Some phones stop background apps aggressively, which can cut the connection. Exempt MeowX in Me › Advanced › Enhanced Tools › Battery Optimization. Some manufacturers have additional settings (auto-start, background activity) in their own system settings. See Troubleshooting.
Push notifications
Section titled “Push notifications”By default, Google push traffic (FCM) follows your rules. If notifications arrive late when your nodes are slow, turn off Me › Traffic control › Proxy push services to send push traffic direct (Rule mode only). See Settings.
